Windows 7 Help

Windows 7, Ultima Online free shards, Razor, EasyUO / OpenUO and you…

Perhaps you have stumbled upon this topic from a random Google search, perhaps not. It is however likely that you are an internet video game nerd, should that be the case then welcome to the family.

For the remainder of your limited attention span I will attempt to explain how to make your Windows 7 operating system perform the rudimentary tasks as flawlessly as possible like its predecessors did without incident, involving Ultima online, Run UO (free shard emulator) EasyUO/OpenUO, and Razor.

Let’s begin with permissions first…

With Windows 7 (as with Vista) we now have a rather irritating User Account Control otherwise know as the UAC.

With the UAC most of your programs are going to run by default with limited functionality “for safety”. This includes Ultima Online, Razor, EasyUO, OpenUO, and Razor. This needs to be remedied.

First let’s address the issue of Administrator Privileges (this is a Windows 7 article, Vista may differ slightly).

The following programs should be altered as indicated…

  • Razor
  • Ultima Online
  • EasyUO
  • OpenUO

Let us begin with Razor, find the shortcut that looks like this…

Now right click it.

Select “properties” then “compatibility” The menu should look like this…

Now select “change setting for all users”

The next menu should reflect this

Now select OK on BOTH properties menus.

Razor is now configured for XP compatibility and Administrative privileges.

PLEASE NOTE: Microsoft XP “sp2” (service pack two) is apparently the operating system compatibility mode of choice relative to the Ultima Online and supportive programs at the time of this notice (in regard to Windows 7 functionality).

Ok the next step is to look at and change the actual Ultima Online program privileges next…

Click the “start menu” It looks like this for those of you that don’t know.

(little windows circle in the lower left hand corner of your screen).

Then lets click “All programs”

Looks like this

Find “EA Games” and left click it.

Now lets look for your UO folder. It should look like this…

(left) click it.

Now it’s time to find the destination, it’s the UO file as shown below…

Right click that icon.

Select “properties” then “compatibility” The menu should look like this…

Now select “change setting for all users”

The next menu should reflect this

Now select OK on BOTH properties menus.

Ultima Online is now configured for XP compatibility and Administrative privileges.

Now you have had the opportunity to set not only Razor but Ultima Online as functional within the Windows 7 environment compatible with XP sp2 (the most recent most functional compatible os) but also the opportunity to set both of these devices to run as administrator within Windows 7.

I recommend that you also follow the same steps if you plan to use EasyUO.

Allow me to take the time to credit Swimmy as the principal intelect behind this endeavor, I always maintain that I am an idiot, and it is she that inspires the product that you see written before you.

If you appreciate this information or if it helps you in any function of your playing experience please consider visiting the below listed webpage to support EasyUO or OpenUO.
